VANA Needs A PAC Chair!

Are you motivated to help advance your profession? Do you want to have an impact on the policy decisions being made by Virginia legislators? Can you spare a few hours to volunteer with VANA to help us achieve our legislative goals?

Then you might be a perfect fit to get involved with the VANA PAC Committee! VANA is currently in search of a volunteer to take on the duties of chair for the PAC Committee. If you are ready to help advance our profession and to play a role in the policy decisions happening at the Capitol, please contact Cathy Harrison and Meredith Joyner at [email protected].

More details on the role are provided below:

Committee Chair Duties Include:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the Administrative Manual.
  2. Review the VANA Strategic Plan to identify tasks assigned to the committee and to review the current status of the committee.
  3. Develop goals and activities for your committee and the mechanism(s) by which to accomplish goals based on discussion with the Board of Directors and current chairperson.
  4. Attend required VANA membership meetings.
  5. Schedule committee meetings according to the needs of the committee; however, all committees must meet at least (1) one time between state meetings.
  6. Each committee chairperson is responsible for orienting new committee members and for the coordination of committee activities that encourage participation by all committee members.
  7. Committee chairpersons are responsible for reporting to the Board of Directors for duties assigned to them.
  8. Submit a written report in advance of each regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting.
  9. It is highly recommended committee chairs attend board meetings.
  10. Submit an annual report of committee activities to the Board of Directors prior to the Fall Annual Conference meeting.
  11. Serve as a resource to the next committee chair.

Time Commitment

  1. The Board meets quarterly in the fall, winter, spring and summer. Meetings last 3 to 4 hours.
  2. A one-day (weekend) planning retreat may be conducted on an annual basis.
  3. Committee chairs are expected to attend AANA & VANA meetings as outlined above.
